I want cyberpunk to be real. No, not the destroyed earth and the apparent 2 pack a day required smoking habit. But I'd love a robot spine rather than my... twitchy one. Super legs? Sign me up. Computer built into my arm? Tell me what kind of anti-virus works best with it.

i am so fucking glad you talked about shadowrun, seriously one of my favorite RPG settings! my first character in the tabletop was an orc street cowboy who used to run security for Aries. his lower arms and legs where all chromed out, his lower legs resembled cowboy boots and had hydraulic jacks that let him jump to crazy heights, his left arm had extra armor plating and a stabilizer for his Yerzed out cavalier deputy and his right arm contained a semi auto shotgun... he also rode on a chopper and wore a black duster and cowboy hat. my second character was a frail technomancer human (they can magically interact with cyberspace with no need for any electronic interface)... he nearly died... a lot... he wasn't treated well by the team either.... and the last character i played was a highly educated elf wizard who specialized in healing magic. he also practiced traditional medicine. this isnt to say he didnt fight. he was skilled in elven martial arts, and had some offensive spells up his sleeve... to the ire of some of the team... another thing that irked them was the fact i turned a street legal APC into an up-armored ambulance that i operated a boot leg medical clinic out of for the SINless (System Identification Number... basically non-citizens- shadow people- nobodies)

I feel less than human sometimes. I have been on my own since i was 14 and had no one. Of course, nobody owed/owes me anything, so it was so hard because even then i wouldnt ask for help. All i had was myself and my dog and my rat. Rat stayed in his litte carrier. Anyhow, the reason i say these things is because in the short, fleeting, extremely rare moments in the 90s where i had a friend who had more friends closer by, we played the cyberpunk role playing game for hours. There were so many aspects of the game that kind kf mirrored my life in many ways. It allowed me create a character even though it was pretty much me, the character was still able to exist within that futuristic world. Im still having horrible issues stemming from bad, uninformed decision i made in my homeless, destitute, early teenage life. But the older role playing game--which back then "Cyberpunk" wasnt a genre, It was the actual name of that role playing game-- probably is what kept me from just giving up permanently and attacking a cop somewhere so i could get my brains shot out by a scared cop. Alot of the base aspects were very relatable. I always sucked at making up missions though lol.

You need to remember another book called "I have no mouth and I must scream" about an AI calling itself AM that tortures the last of mankind. It is what I would call the final stage of cyberpunk or the beginning to an end.

Ellison's book was a little on the fence, so I didn't end up covering it. It's incredibly short, but also more of a post-apocalyptic story than cyberpunk.

Missed two important comics. Enki Bilal was part of same group of artists as Moebius. His Nikopol trilogy was hige visual inspiration for Riddley Scott. And Tamburini/Liberatore's Ranxerox was inspiration for Gibson. Recently Heavy Metal republished it in a complete collection. Teen junkie prostitute and Ranxerox' android she made from a copier' and uses him as enforcer and sex slave. Very grim vision of cyberpunk Rome.

This is what I tried to explain in youtube comments to the audience who have not liked the game for days :). This game is a treasure for a generation like me, who grew up with movies and anime like blade runner, akira, ghost in the shell in the 80-90s. It is normal for the materialist-insatiable new generation to criticize this game so much because they did not live in those times. In the 80s we used to complete simple graphic games without details with our imaginations. The reason why we remember the old games so well was that our imagination got us into them. the current generation has two expectations. graphics and effect. They can't use their imagination and get into the game. they think a game consists of only graphics and effects. cyberpunk is a game with depth in my opinion. I wrote in my previous comments, this game will be much better with its updates just like no man's sky. You see the mistake cdrp did when the game is over. the staff allocated for art is ok. but the programmer staff is very small. The style changed a lot after the witcher. It would be better for them to develop the cyberpunk after they released a few small games of this kind and gained experience.
