Having an absolute blast playing this, but revisiting this video for a little insight (no joke about no tutorial) and now I'm jealous at just how damn good Mandalore is at arranging the cards.

Fantastic game but the clock is dementing, especially for an older gentleman who just wants to take the time to truly understand the occult and not just rush through it.

I backed this game on Kickstarter or Indiegogo or one of those things, I can't remember. Thought it looked dope af. Then I finally got my copy and I just have NO patience for this game, so I still haven't played it for more than 10 minutes and have no idea what it's all about.

It's only now, after coming back to watch this again in 2020, that I notice fucking Sewer Surfin' in the background just barely audible.

I had a bad Ulnaris nerve lesion which hurt so bad I couldn't use my right arm for 3 weeks. This game saved me while I was on sick leave. It's only a few bucks on mobile and runs fine on a cheap tablet. Most importantly, I could play it with only my left hand.

Kennedy is an amazing writer who comes up with brilliant ideas, settings, and stories...and without fail, he puts that brilliance and all that effort into games that, without fail, are absolutely atrocious in terms of gameplay, grinding and just slogging through nonsense to get to the gold. And I say this as someone who absolutely *loves* Sunless Sea.

Honestly, this game is in a weird place. It have very boring starting grind, fairly interesting mid game (that dont last long, unfortunately) and then you just... kinda rush to an end. This is weird, because there are a lot of opportunities opens up, more languages to learn, deeper parts of a dreams to explore, but you dont really need to do so. You can easily finish your run without touching rituals (aside from final one), not learning most of languages, im pretty sure you dont even need, hell, im pretty sure you dont even need to get to a peacock door for a certain paths or if you are lucky.And thing is, after beating game once you gain access to basically a hard mod, that makes early game much more interesting, but nothing like that for an endgame, which is a shame, because it is then stuff start getting really interesting

What i loved about this game is, that with it becoming more risky as you progress and also you having more to lose, it kind of drives you towards more reckless decisions. That's what happened to me the first time i came really far. The police where after me, madness closing in but i was so close. So close to whatever the hell i was searching for. So i'll sacrificed follower after follower to hunt down more and more detectives while also trying to progress. I think the game works best the first few times, when you're still figuring stuff out, because it feels like a genuine descent into madness.

What a terrible video... I'm trying to learn something about THE GAME, and we have to wade through this guy's self-indulgent ramblings and equally self-indulgent wise-cracks. Notice he makes sure we are told that he's aware of Lovecraft to a degree where he can offer commentary on those who reference Lovecraft! A subtle "I know more than you". Its too bad. We rely on Youtube more these days for reviews of things, yet the people making the reviews are mostly narcissists shoving a camera in their face.

I don't see how Mandalore being aware of Lovecraft is anything beyond standard ethos reasoning. I mean isn't the idea he wanted to touch on that despite people saying that Cultist Simulator is similar to Lovecraft's work it actually is more akin to The King in Yellow, a story that inspired Lovecraft. Also, you present him being aware of Lovecraft as a bad thing, but would it actually be better if Mandalore didn't know anything about it? Letting the audience known the game's influences helps the audience understand the tone of the work in question.

I tried this game during its free weekend and unfortunately didn't care for it. I enjoy my card games and I'm a sucker for anything Cthulu related but felt like I was just spinning a bunch of plates and the vagueness of the rules really annoyed me. It's a shame because the developers seem quite cool.

Fine on a tablet, almost unplayable on a phone due to the lack of any "autopause" functions. You have to zoom in to read a 4pt font, and zoom out to see what is happening which is still to small to see all the relevant information. If there was an option to pause every time a timed circle completed, it would be far more playable.

Fun fact, the discord community for this game accidently created its own cult for awhile. No, I'm not joking.

It's quite funny - I've just rewatched your video after finally buying and playing the game and they still hadn't fixed how grindy the beginning feels and added no auto-pause that could be so helpful. I hadn't won as a cultist yet despite putting in 20 hours already, I had minor victory both by cultist and as a detective, but it's still so very confusing in late game and grindy at the beginning.

Half of the time I wasn't sure if you talk about the game or life in general.

Ive played this about 20 hrs gotten hardly anywhere and still love it.

I loved this game but I couldn't get past a certain point. I played maybe over a year ago for like 30 hours or so. And in that time the furthest I could get was nonstop researching books from the book shop. It felt like if I wanted to do anything, I had to grind to that point, then grind some more for....something. I forgot what I was supposed to be doing. Excursions? Gathering more cultists? I still had a good time with the game. Also, I never figured out how to arrange my cards. I think every time I started over I would try something new. And I ended up really enjoying that aspect. Everything about this game is such an enigma.

I’ve played over 100 hours of this game, won multiple victories, and every time I start a new one, I find a new way to rearrange my cards.
