I get your point about Fiona, but compared to "Red" by Taylor Swift in #99, Extraordinary Machine should not be the one to be pointed out. I mean, Taylor sold over 7 milion with this record and does anybody (not a fan and not a country listener) remember a song from it? does anybody listen to it? does any artist really (and I mean REALLY) go to this record to be inspired? lol that's when I understanding why "folklore" is the most overrated album of the year. ugh.

Even better, when you go album by album and read each little description given it gets pretty clear that the lower the number the more they don't know what the album even is.

Interesting to note that the bulk of albums in this RS list were released prior to 1977. Year # Entries 1970 23 1972 22 1971 22 1969 20 1975 18 1977 16 1991 16 1994 16 1967 15 1973 15 FFS Harry Styles?!

I don't know what to feel about the Immaculate Collection in here. Of course is a compilation of greateast hits, but there's some things to be considered here 1. Madonna re-recorded/made a new mix for almost all of the songs on this compilation (excluding Lucky Star), so it's not just a lot of songs from other albuns put together on one place, it's almost a new body of work 2. This album contains Justify My Love, that started a gigantic debate over women sexuality on music, got her video banned from MTV and made it the most sold video single in history (also the first) 3. Is, to this day, the most sold compilation album from a female artist. So, I do think there's some logic on putting this one on the list

I think some of the weirdness, especially towards the bottom, comes from the voting method (which I’m not a huge fan of). If like 5 rank Harry Styles highly enough he’ll make it onto the list. It also creates some awkward incentives in terms of voting.

Agree with all yer complaints. Plus Sheryl Crow, Daddy Yankee, Bon Iver, Britney Spears, Usher, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne, My Chemical Romance, Shania Twain, Yeezus, John Mayer, ugh! Also What's Going On -- Gaye made at least several albums better than that. In Epworth's book on 1971 - Never A Dull Moment: "Some writers in the broadsheets compared Gaye to Ellington. If so, it was the rather stiff, sanctimonious Ellington who was always trying to get into the concert hall rather than Ellington the genius of the dance hall. No white artist would have dared serve up anything quite as stagy as a track like “Save the Children.” Had they done so, they would have been ripped apart for their pains, probably by the same critics who hailed Gaye’s song, as his official biographer and collaborator David Ritz later did, as “a socioreligious work of astounding originality.” Vince Aletti, the man Rolling Stone used to call when the magazine wanted to cover soul, broadly approved, but even he said that the lyrics were “hardly brilliant” and pointed out that its continuity of mood, which was itself quite unusual, was in danger of being boring." While I may not quite agree to the extent of label boss and father-in-law Berry Gordy’s assessment that it was dangerously retrograde coctail jazz, and “the worst piece of crap I ever heard,” I think it’s overall meandering noodly vibe reflects the reality that after the single “What’s Going On” was released, the rest of the album was recorded in a rush. Gaye’s desire to address his brother’s experience in Vietnam was admirable, but the result felt detached. Understandable coming from a man operating in a cloud of cocaine. He was consuming so many drugs that he had delusions of grandeur that he could seriously try out for the Detroit Lions, despite the fact that Gaye had never played a game of football in his life. Another flawed, cocaine-fueled album was Sly & the Family Stone’s There’s A Riot Goin’ On. However, at least, in its fractured state, the music sounded as genuinely shattered as Stone must have felt, compared to the smooth lounge music of Gaye’s album.

The Band’s Music From Big Pink is at #100. Taylor Swift’s Red is #99. Rubber Soul is #35. Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black is #33 and Beyoncé’s Lemonade is #32. The Beatles’ Revolver is #11. Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is #10. This is what happens when you focus on diversity instead of talent. You get nonsense.

This list is stupid. The fact that Ege Bamyasi by Can is so low absolutely blows my mind. Also Death Grips isn't on the list so I'm mad. Also, does Billie Elish seriously deserve a spot on the top 500 "best albums of all time"? Yes it is immensely popular, but I don't think it's "of all time" great, and the fact that all of the albums below it on the list are better.

Why get so triggered over a list though? Like you guys could come up with better ones. You would purposefully ignore every famous artist people have actually heard about and just put some random people you like and label them "influential". Like there is no way to hear every album ever, there is no way to remember every album ever, and even regularly listening an album you will still forget those songs overtime. I've maybe listened to a couple of these albums at most so I don't know neither do I care about this list. And the point of this list is to basically gather every safe option they can think of so people can use them as reference points to discover new underground hipster things they actually like and use them as part of their personality when they're boring to talk to. It's not rocket science. I swear fantano fans are the most elitist and insecure people ever.

No Aphex Twin is a bloody travesty of music criticism. How on earth at least Selected Ambient World 85-92 doesn't make the top 50 let alone the top 500 completely baffles me. The placement of Elephant was probably the most baffling to me. If the argument is to re-do a list that you did 17 years prior in order to make room for recent records, why is Elephant, which is probably one of, if not, the best rock records of the last 20 years not higher? I think Back to Black by AW deserves her top 50 spot but, Elephant is right up there, imo, for album of that decade.
