I made a Renewable energy powered clothes dryer but theres more to consider than you think....
I made this as I'm hosting "Pitch the Future" the Virtual event being run buy the Shell Eco Marathon team as normal events this year have been affected by the Pandemic.
Check out the Live pitches from student teams trying to solve real world problems and reduce Co2 emissions in 4 sectors here www.makethefuture.shell/en-gb/shell-eco-marathon/2021-programme/virtual-programme-2021/pitch-the-future

Now this is a very Low Tech approach to green energy but its always good to start simple and who knew about the washing machine door shape being so important lol. What other green projects would you like to see as this has got me thinking, Theres some great pitches from the teams with energy from falling rain aero efficient Traffic sequencing and different materials to improve batteries so hope this completion helps these things become a reality.

A little bit simplistic approach to given problem but decent realisation of the project. I suppose the over theatrical ( for my taste) appearance is supposed to attire more audience.

Air and water displacement powered air compressor driven turbine drum with piezioelectric plates to catch energy from the spinning that put the extra needed to use a small amount of the air flow to power the air and water displacement generator ....maybe even a levitating liquid pendulum washing machine built into the air and water displacement generator Like archamedes sphere was ment for Ferroelectric polymer shock absorbing springs on acrylic axles with cloth in the brackets to catch the static with tinfoil capacitor A spherical gyroscopic version would be cool Free energy Like bubbling water to compress air Compressed air can be added to water to cut through pretty much anything too Water jets dont wear like saw blades do All without even needing electricity or batteries These are a few of my free energy upgrades Awesome vids furzey boy cracking contraptions created What about holographic projector shades using water vapor so nothing touches the face Vapor density regulation acting like polarized lenses helmholz resonator gyroscopic antigravity supercapacitor ionic acoustic hoverboard would be cool

There's a slug falling from your clothes on 11:19. Maybe something to think about when building an outdoor dryer without any door.
Måned sidenAndré Holmberg
A convection drier driven by just solar heat would be so much simpler and cheaper.
Måned sidenJoey isamazing
That didn’t solve any of the problems a clothesline has. You still have to take your clothes outside and then bring them back in, it still takes a full day, and it only works on warm windy days.

Hey Colin! I don't fully expect you to notice a comment on a month old video, but I just wanted to say I think this is a great idea, and I'm no expert, but thinking of my own clothes drier that I use, the air usually blows in from the back or through all the small holes punctured in the barrel itself. In this specific configuration, most of the air would leak out rather than pass through the clothes, since there's no door to isolate it, but you noticed that yourself of course. Secondly, most driers have inwards-facing fins that portrude from the barrel, creating slight "steps" that the clothes hang onto for an additional second before they drop back down, this would bring the clothes closer to the fan, as well as make them fall back down to the bottom while the other clothes are being brought up, creating more of a tumbling chain of motion, since your dryer seemed to have a lot of the clothes slide around the bottom for the most part, since there wasn't enough friction to drag them up at all, which might explain why the thicker clothes weren't drying, since heavier objects tend to stick to the bottom of a pile. That's just my two cents of course, I'm no expert. Cheers mate!
Måned sidencolinfurze
your right but this was a test mainly of the wind and solar parts firstly, theres lots of things to improve so will revise it at some point

The 'Wind/Solar Powered Clothes Dryer' has already been invented. It's called a '#WashingLine'. 👍🏻😂
Måned sidenGoatlips
...No, I did not check the previous comments. Also - I was impressed by the creation - definitely easier than a washing line, albeit considerably more expensive to make (especially if you only have cutlery for tools to begin with).
Måned sidenGhozer
Can anyone calculate how many times he would have to use it / how long for, to re-gain the energy used while building the thing? ;)

Once again solar power beats the pants off of wind - cheaper, simpler, more reliable and just plain more powerful. For the money and time into the turbine you could buy a couple more panels, though I realize half the fun is the build here. I consider adding a wind turbine to my solar array occasionally, but always remember that it's rarely worth it on a residential scale. Utility scale wind is a different story.

Måned sidenpigtailsboy
Feel like concentrated solar into a temperature battery you could use to help heat and power the process would have worked better than straight solar. Good not to waste the wind though. If you can get the sun to run hot enough maybe getting the wind and solar and which-what every to build up speed on a fly wheel to better tumble the laundry. Steady as she goes but a modern drier does have some advantages. Don't see a lot of fly wheel reliant projects online. Suppose it's a bit outside the ability of most hobbyists to craft and perfect... some day, somewhere, somehow.
