    The Paley Center for Media

    Runtime: 1:14:27

Cast and cocreator of NBC's Parks and Recreation gather at PaleyFest LA 2014 to celebrate their show. Topics include: the cast's talents for improvising while in character; Amy Poehler as a positive feminist role model; whether the show accurately portrays the Midwest; Chris Pratt's memorable audition scene with Rashida Jones; the decision to tailor roles around the cast members' unique talents; the challenge of cutting episodes down to twenty-one minutes; the fun of having Nick Offerman's wife Megan Mullally on set; and how the characters' quirks and eccentricities inspire the actors.

I loved that about Parks that the show didn't pursue love and at soon as it found it it was over (which happens in almost every show ever)

There is no better show during a pandemic than parks and rec. Amy Pohler is the embodiment of optimism and is is exactly what is needed during these times. This show needs to come back in some form

Best Show ever! My deepest Thanks! Love from Austria!!! ♥️ (I had to use smart dns to watch it, sadly it‘s geo-restricted in Amazon Prime so people here don‘t get to enjoy it... and in fact thats why not that many people here know the show at all... maybe also because they tried synchronizing it in german and that failed desperately. You MUST watch the original! ^^)

He sucks- he goes on endlessly. Just because he is a fan doesn't make him a good interviewer.

I totally disagree. He started so many questions just to stop in the middle and reword it. He does that in his stand up to. I find him very funny but when you are running a panel like this your job is to get the questions out so the panelists can answer. He takes too long to ask things.

That’s why everyone wants to work with/for him. It’s show biz, so brilliant a$$holes are a dime a dozen. But brilliant, generous, collaborative, kind-holes? Fewer and further between. Groups tend to mimic their leader. Talent attracts talent. Awesome attracts awesome.

I know the names of so many of his team members from fellow writers to producers and casting directors because he names them in podcasts and interviews and tells stories about them. It's so lovely to see such a hardworking and humble person get so far. Parks and Recreation was perfect! The Good Place was legendary! Brooklyn Nine Nine is witty and humorous! I'm so excited to see his future projects, I know they will be of such great standard.

Parks and Rec was the better show b/c even though it was shot in a similar way to The Office, the show transcended its first season and all the tropes that people thought made it to similar to the show that inspired it. Parks had a cast that grew and matured along with the seasons. There were genuine loving relationships on the show that pushed the boundaries of how love or friendship could be portrayed in such a light-hearted medium. Leslie and Ben, Andy and April, and heck even Garry and Gayle put Jim and Pam's vanilla, ho-hum, and tiresome relationship to shame. It's funny that a show like The Office could never show the professional growth of its characters - whether that was a flaw of the script, the shallowness of the people being portrayed, or something else entirely, but in Parks, you see Leslie go from a local govt. employee to being part of city council, to even becoming Governor of her state. This is mirrored in the growth of Ben, Andy, Ron, Donna, and so many other characters. Jim starts a pencil-pusher...and ends up as a slightly more successful pencil-pusher. Parks and Recreation is the FAR better show. Finito.
