What weight projectiles were you using and what kind of velocity did you get from the projectile as it left the muzzle? For accuracy, you can try using a projectile shaped like a badminton shuttlecock instead of a cylinder. I'm guessing that using lighter projectiles will throw the timing completely off though since you'd reach higher speeds.

I had a hobby of making really crappy coil guns out of used kodak cameras I got for free from a walgreens photo center years ago. If anyone wants to start experimenting, I recommend that, some copper wire, and a straw. I launched paperclips. I desperately miss the fun this sort of thing brought, too.

Pretty lousy, a rubber band would have worked better. You need to upgrade the coils, increase the amperage, the drivers and introduce z-axis rotation in the metal rod to improve trajectory stabilization. Nice project though.

See, here's the thing. This gun is AWESOME, but I want to see something lethally awesome. From a ballistics standpoint, this could be massively improved if you used smaller, lighter projectiles and implemented rifling. That would improve both aim and penetration/stopping power.
