Do you solve puzzles in one go or come back to them?

Definitely come back. I decided to solve a Rubix cube from scratch (no prior knowledge about the cube going in.) I did while I worked at a Mathnasium while no students were in. It took me around 6 months worth of shifts in order to do it, and figure out a consistent way to do it. The way I do it is FAR from optimal, but I can do it and I'm proud!

Have to come back. I still have a puzzle that I can separate a little but can't all the way!

This is how I feel when I try to put my X Box back into the box it came in.

Neverdull is a great brass cleaner used it when I was in the US Navy. Comes in a blue tin it's wadded cotton with the cleaner absorbed into the cotton. Rub in using small chunk in small circles let it sit for a couple of minutes the rub off with a dry rag. Great polish every time.

First determine if it is lacquered or not. If it is not tarnished at all, then simple soap and warm water will clean it. Second determine if it is platted or solid brass. Put a magnet on it. If it falls off then it is solid brass and if it sticks then it is platted. Platted also only requires warm water and soap. For solid brass DIY clean and polished Lemon and Baking Soda Polish Combine the juice of half a lemon with a teaspoon of baking soda and stir until it becomes a paste. Apply the paste with a soft cloth. If the tarnish is heavy, let the piece sit with the paste on it for 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and dry. Repeat if necessary. Lemon and Salt Polish Slice a lemon in half and cover the cut section with a teaspoon of table salt. Rub the lemon on the tarnished piece, squeezing it as you go to release the lemon juice. Rinse with warm water and dry. Flour, Salt, and White Vinegar Combine equal parts of all three ingredients to create a paste. Apply a thin layer of that paste to the tarnished brass and leave it for an hour before rinsing with warm water and drying. Ketchup, Tomato Sauce, or Tomato Paste When you wondered how to clean brass, you probably didn’t think ketchup would be involved, but—surprise—it is! Tomatoes contain an acid that helps to remove tarnish on brass and other metals; that’s why applying a tomato-based product can work wonders on your brass. Ketchup, tomato paste, and tomato sauce all work equally well. Apply a layer to your brass and leave it on for an hour. Then wash with warm water and dish soap. Let it dry. Dunno if it works for puzzles but with my trombone we just fill the bathtub (you could just use a small container) then you leave it there for an hour or 2 then put it on a towel to airdry

I dont remember how those puzzles work but when you wash them wash them disassembled where all of the passages (like where pins are) would dry downwards to the towel

In the Navy we used something called "Never-Dull" to clean brass and other metal surfaces that needed to shine. If you look for NeverDull with that . and Com you should be able to find it.

For brass, US Navy issue bug juice. (Or Brasso)

Nevr-Dull or Brasso was what we used in the Navy to clean all the brass on the ship. That and a cotton tee shirt made it all shiny and sparkly. Works great :D

i have to question if anyone knows why its called the Kepler puzzle? i think i have an idea but i want to double check

NevrDull works well with shining stuff....all ya do is wipe a small thing of NevrDull on there and wipe off with a microfiber towel

Brasso

Any vinegar based hot sauce. Let the sauce sit on the brass for a few minutes then wipe clean.

Use Brasso to clean Brass I had to clean my grandparents Brass when I was a kid for pocket money that’s what I used Brasso

I would use brasso, can get it in liquid or wadding and both ways work really well

You can't wash brass (edit: well, you can, but it won't do any good). Now that it's tarnished, you have to polish it. And after it's polished, spray some lacquer on it to keep it from tarnishing again.

Ketchup cleans brass

To clean brass stuff use a mild acid, like ketchup or tomato paste. Just put a little on a kitchen towel and rub it on, and then clean it off with the clean part of the towel. No water ofc😅

I would of mic them and the put a sharpie on them to number the size

Don’t wash brass but you can use mother’s polish or a car wax recommend something with Kanuba wax

Brasso will polish it right up. It’s what we use on uniform brass.

Hey Chris, a tip for cleaning brass: just use toothpaste or a mix of equal parts of water(ml) , vinegar(ml) and flour (g) with a few grains of rough salt to increase the abrasion

I know it's original with the timer but in my opinion you should put a timer in the video for your editor to put in to save you some money on the batteries on the timers you use just my opinion

I have a felt wheel on a bench grinder but you can get them for a cordless drill. Little bit of polish on the wheel and it makes short work of it

Any Navy boy will tell you the best thing for brass is never dull the magic wadding pollish. You can get it on Amazon for $10

Vinegar

I'd just use a polishing wheel and some polishing compound to shine the brass. You don't exactly "wash" brass but you can polish it back to a nice shine...or honestly just let it patina and it looks cooler the more it takes on a different look.

hey Chris - have you ever done a video on sources for these types of puzzles (not necessarily this one specifically, but in general)? I'm sure you can imagine that typing "puzzle" into google gives you jigsaw puzzles. I'd like to buy a few and possibly start collecting them, but don't really know where to start.

Brass, Gold, and Silverware cleaner: Hot water, vinegar, baking soda. Let it soak and rub off lightly with a brush. Let soak some more and towel dry. Should be clean

how on earth do you construct this whole thing? it's one thing to create it with a computer program that calculates how the beads should fit in there, but to actually make it work in a practical sense with friction and angles..wow.

I was in the Army and to clean out brass buckles on our belts we used a mixture of 20-25 % ketchup and 75-80% brasso (you can find at literally any Walmart Kroger, Meijer or Target ( other states may include Publix)) works every time.... It only took me two rubs of 3-5 mins to get it perfectly shiny!!! Hope you try it out and get those puzzles looking brand new🤙
