Dark Souls has such a great setting and atmosphere. You're killing things because they want to kill you, and get better at it the more you do it. But at the same time, you're being completely unaware of the transgressions which happened prior. Such a good representation of what an unknowing chosen one would go through.

Great video. My 2 cents on the Witch of Izalith and Nito appearing as giants, their form is just amplified by the lord souls they possess . We know the witch found a soul near the first flame before she attempted to create her own flame. Her daughters didn’t possess lord souls so they remained of normal stature until eventually being warped by the chaos flame parasites.

I'm not all too convinced that Lloyd created humans, since their humanity is borne of the Furtive Pygmy's dark lord soul. Although, perhaps it is possible that humanity found a home in Lloyd's creation very early on, but I still believe that humans are more the product of the pygmy than any god

Anyone else notice the parallels between Seath and Gwyndolin? Based on this timeline, Seath must have been a "later" Dragon, and was born imperfect and pale, with serpentine legs. He then assists in the obliteration of his kind. Seath was a harbinger for the end of dragons. Gwyndolin was similarly born later than much of his kind, likely when his race's age was meant to be over or ending, also imperfect and pale, with serpentine legs. He was "all too aware" of his frail and sickly appearance - why would something like appearance matter so much to a god, to a son of Gwyn? There's also the idea that Gwyndolin represents the Shadow cast by the Light - he's Dark Sun Gwyndolin. The Moon reigns over dark, and creates no light of its own - it can only reflect the light of the set Sun. As Gwyn and his Age's power faded, so too did his power to produce "beautiful" children in his image. Gwyndolin's birth, form, and powers were a clear sign of the end of the Age of Fire. Unlike Seath, though, Gwyndolin stayed faithful to his kind, and instead used his unique powers to assist in prolonging the Age of Fire. He uses his talents in illusion to mask the secrets of Anor Londo and to aid the undead pilgramage. But first he likely used them to hide himself away from his father, and to surround Gwyn and his kingdom with images like that of his sister, images they would instead find comforting. Gwyndolin's father, who hated all things that threatened his Age, would have found his appearance and what it represents abhorrent. I believe this is what he was "all too aware" of.

"The child cannot be Gwyn as he doesn't wield a straight sword" Not to be a contrarian, but a straight sword would make for a heluva greatsword for a baby. Though the idea of baby Gwynn swinging around an ultra greatsword and flame chokeslamming everyone in sight is suitably hilarious. "The only lake we know of is Ash Lake" Ignoring Darkroot Basin, of course. An enjoyable watch, but these few points stuck with me.

I love Dark Souls lore, but I think sometimes we understimate how easy a developer might put something in the game "just because" instead of being 100% consistent with all the things already in the game. Like calling Izalith's daughters "of chaos", that might just be that it sounded cool to say.
5 måneder sidenMohammad Abdelrahman
Yeah... But dark souls is a work of passion. Almost everything (if not everything) has a purpose in the game. This why dark souls 2 was kinda hated compared to 1,3. But still compared to the lore 1 is the most unique because it was a product of love
3 måneder sidenFracticality
I'm quite certain the "They" in the intro are the Lords. My reasoning being the capitalization of "They," as this is what is done for "He" when referring to God. The intro also introduces the Lords immediately afterward. I think they all not only existed prior to fire, but were equal in all ways. Fire, after all, brought disparity, and the ones that discovered the Souls of Lords were thus elevated to that status. The Lords then bequeathed portions of their respective souls to their followers.

Dear friend @Qalidurut I just checked (both) the dome over the city of Izalith and the lord vessel; unfortunately motives are different. Also... Dome made of stones & bricks, but "lordvessel" made of metal. Apart from that facts, there are some fascinating similarities... Problem with your theory that the Chaos was unleashed before the Age of Fire: If Firesage was the first demon, and demons came from the Bed, then that means the Witch had transformed by that point. But the intro shows her in giant form participating in the battle against the Ancient Dragons. Thus forcing the Bed transformation to have taken place AFTER. Suddenly it makes sense why most of your evidence for this seemed to contradict you.

With the new insights from DS3, do you think you might release an updated timeline up to the beginning of DS1?
6 måneder sidenLast Hope
I enjoy Dark Souls lore but the more I learn the more I feel From Software was intentionally vague to make it easier on their end. Far more simple to state events than actually make a time line, just saying something is easy, not giving more information leaves it open ended and vague. You could say this was all by design and required a lot of work to pull off, but it's also a telltale sign of poor work. Just giving small storys makes it far easier on their end, that really can't be denied since we really have nothing to validate it, a good chunk of the lore itself conflicts with other key points which means it can't be trusted and also once again suggests poor work. I kinda feel the game has 2 different stories going on at once to suggest everything, each conflicting with the other but each having their own valid points we can prove in game. I feel we must either accept one or the other, if one side has to many flaws which can be disproven there is no reason to than quote other parts as valid. We tend to believe the game has 1 valid timeline when so much information contradicts itself or other key moments and we have gotten to the point of cherry picking some lore but writing many parts of the same entry off as false .. I really don't know how I feel about it, some seems to have a good bit of effort behind it while some just seems contradictive to other critical lore as if they forgot previous events in the games story happened. Throw in "you can't trust the serpents" who witnessed everything and you have no real source to definitively contradict the story either way. As for this video, it's enjoyable, but it's speculation, on speculation, and by the end you are 20-30 speculations deep which requires EVERYTHING to be correct for it to make any real sense. The logic of these videos really follows the "Ancient Aliens" approach of assumptions validating other assumptions.
6 måneder sidenobscure reference
i agree that trying to compile something definitive from piecemeal item entries is presumptuous, but to say that the lore of the game is lazy is absolutely wrong. the way it tells its story is unique and offers many different perspectives, none of which are necessarily “right”, but all of which paint a more vivid picture of this desolate hellscape you’re fighting through.

This comment is clearly late to class, but food for thought (which may serve to prove many of our detective's points). If something is long forgotten in the lore it may mean it is intentionally not recorded to remove evidence both immediately and historically.

I believe what people tend to ignore is that the moment when "fire came" and when "they found the souls of lords in it" might be far apart. Fire brought life into existence and this life thrived before the lords found their souls. There where humans before the pygmy found the Dark Soul, so the Dark Soul is not necessarily natural to humanity. I think the Abyss depicts this clearly, as it twisted and malforms humans overcome by it. Kaathe also says that humanity is "shackled", but not that they were malformed. So humanity could draw on the Dark Soul and aquire power equal to the gods but they can also be overcome by it. It doesnt really matter if humanity is shackled by the Age of Fire or by darkness in the end.

It always irks me when people discuss Lloyd, Velka, and the other "gods" mentioned only in item descriptions. It's pretty clear that either those aren't the "real" gods (most people likely don't know the true origins of the world) or Fromsoft didn't have time to flesh out that part of lore. Either way I think it's a waste of time to speculate about how they affected the main plot of the game.

Love the videos. However, not sure I agree with the logic that the creation of the Flame of Chaos happened before the war with the dragons. As soon as disparity emerges, there are dualities: life and death, light and dark, order and chaos. I think the timeline just requires fewer assumptions if the FoC is created between the war with the dragons and Gwyn's Kindling of the First Flame, with demons perhaps being born over a period of time as the witches try harder and harder to succeed, eventually leading to their downfall and corruption. This is also perhaps one of the factors to lead to the firstborn son's departure: Gwyn's tolerance of the witches' rituals up to their total failure.
7 måneder sidenSTICKY FINGA
I'm still a bit confused by the lore looking at it now Although this is the most detailed video I've seen yes, I do feel like dark souls 3 can disapprove of some of the points made Like where does the ringed city, the dark souls, and the pigmy fit in Also now that we've seen gwyns firstborn didn't he sacrifice everything to ally with the dragons So if that's the case I like to believe he left before the war against demons, but that also means how did the nameless king receive his lightning powers of it was in gwyns last return to anor londo when he split his lightning, also I read somewhere (kinda forgot so not sure if it's true) that the nameless king is known as the lightning heir,. I think either Gwyn "split" his lightning powers or instead he was able to teach and pass them down to people during the dragon war, (hence the firstborn using it along with the four knights of Gwyn and the silver knights to a lesser extent) also I don't get where fillianore was even made from (I just can't make out who and when she was born from any vid including this one, especially because in ds1 gwyndolyn is known as the youngest when in the ringed city I think they refer to fillianore as the youngest. That or she's just somewhere in the middle I guess idk, but then she has no mention in anor londo like the other children if Gwyn so i just can't seem to add up where she fits in to the dark souls 1 story
7 måneder sidenSTICKY FINGA
@Charlz Kulvet alright that makes sense, thanks
7 måneder sidenCharlz Kulvet
To answer your question:(you may know some of these already, but im saying it anyway in case) Ringed city was the encampment to enslave humans. Notice it is in the same shape as the "curse" --a ring of fire we see in the trailer--used to turn human undead. The Dark souls is a loose term--typically meaning human souls, but also 'lost' souls. The Pygmy represents the 'dark' element, and the progenitor of humans. Dragons - Existed since the Age of Stone (Dragons) and came before the Age of Fire (Gods). Firstborn - yes, he betrayed his father because he befriended the surviving dragons. And Gwyn is no friend of dragons nor humans. It helps to start with the big picture: This game is about the Gods trying to stop the upcoming Age of dark by doing two things: enslave humans and brainwash them into performing occult rituals to keep the Age of Fire going. That's what DS1 was all about. The prophecy being nothing but a scam, a propaganda from the Way of White, secretly orchestrated by Gwyndolin to fullfill Gwyn's wish. Our entire journey was one Big Occult Ritual---running around lighting "specific" bonfires, thinking it was to save the 'world' when in fact it was to save our enslavers. (Btw, the "Gods" aren't even "Gods" at all, it was a fake narrative since they were a legit civilization) This is why the true ending we see ourselves still 'existing' after taking the fire. We never needed the fire. This is why the girl called the new painted world as a "dark, gentle place." she was hinting at: Dark = Humans, Gentle Place = peace of mind in the new Age. We ended the Gods and successfully avoided slipping into the Age of Deep (corrupted form of dark, as explained by the Church of Deep). And another reason why the serpents were there bowing to us. We kickstarted the Age of Humans, and became the first vanguard.

I agree with the part about the 4 knights not being something that happened all at once or was even a fixed number. It was clear Gough and Ornstein gained their renown fighting dragons but Artorias and Ciaren seemed like they dealt with post dragon problems. I could honestly see Artorias gaining his fame and rank in the war with the Demons. His large sword, likely awarded after the war, looks about the same weight class of the black knights. If he was some kind of hero demon war, when he heard about what was going on in Oolicila, it would not be a leap to see him looking to fight that battle. He's killed people twisted into monsters before and I'm sure it was triggering Izalith flashbacks with people turning into monsters and all.

I think Havel might of raised gwyndoline. The snakes on his feet, the only place I found those was on a tree in darkroot garden. The music for him is the same as moonlight butterfly, which is the area boss. Now those butterflys are also in the crystal cave near seath. If you look at the statue im firelink the woman appears to be sitting on a throne made of branches. So maybe a royal of a forgotton area? So gwyndoline's mother got captured by seath, was expirimented on and turned into a butterfly. Also it's name has a refference to the moon and light. He must of worked together as where else would he have picked up those illusion spells from (the old ones as it only effects the environment , he never uses illusion in combat)? the same once used by the resistance and behind the one in anor londo has havels armor. Havel could of raised hem as female. If gwyndolin knew what happened to his mother (who, after becoming a butterfly, went back to darkroot garden to look for her son. when she couldn,t find him she might of just stayed there in the hope he,d one day return. That could give gwyndolin a motive to kill seath. He might not have known about havel's plot to fight the gods as Gwyndolin loved her father and siblings. That's why he keeps the occult weapon in a mimic. A mimic wouldn't be enough to stop a god but Gwyndolin is frail. Havel brought her back to anor londo and he might have had enough say to be believed when he said he was a legitemite child. The fact he wears a crown that covers his face and he is hidden behind a illusionary wall is maybe so Seath would not recognize him. I think havel and gwyndelin had the plan to get gwyndelin kidnapped (hence why he was raised as female) maybe to let him im and kill seath. However Havel got trapped in the tower before it happened. Gwyndoline stayed behind and had her darkmoon blades, people who hunt down and punish the guilty. But that's just my theorie

@Luke Shaw What makes me wonder is what is the characters thoughts as he travels? I know essentially their thought process is what we think as we play, but the Fair lady says "Do not cry..." which tells me our guy has an independent thought process and emotional response to the environment. I mean, what do they think when they see the kiln? The great hollow? What may possibly be the Kingdom of Baldur?

I feel like our character probably knew the creation myth. We’re capable of speech, we have a soul and intelligence. We were once a member of society but now we are an undead.
