that model of planet formation has been around since I studied Astronomy in 1969 and it needs revision. There are way to many papers written on how the process described here just could not work like that. So, bombing it may not be as bad an idea as that. First, the gravity would be very week with objects that size. Not all the material would gather back together. Even if most did, they would not be cemented together. As he said a rubble pile. Upon entry of the atmosphere they would separate easily, and each piece would suffer the effects of friction separately, and you would have pieces of considerably less mass upon impact. Gotta get that bomb to do some pretty significant pulverizing though.

I’m here because I had a dream last night that central Africa got hit by an asteroid but I could feel it in Canada and it was totally exaggerated cuz the earth started spinning faster and I could see the light from the explosion and it felt like we were knocked off earths orbit. It was literally the scariest dream I’ve ever had so now I’m obsessing about it

There's a major part left out, the reason the Barringer event was so devastating, given it's small size, was BECAUSE it was iron. Had it been a stony rubble pile, there would be nothing there today. Quite a difference. So a city-sized or 800m iron meteor would be enough to cause the deaths of half the planet by the time all damage from nuclear winter, economic (imagine a Great Depression x4 in depth and world-wide), starvation, disease, etc, is factored in.

Nuking an asteroid should not be disregarded. I believe it's the most viable approach and doing in near proximity to Earth's atmosphere would prevent the chunks from clumping back together, allowing a greater surface area of Earth's atmosphere to burn the chunks.
