It’s always a little interesting trying to understand what the consciousness of other animals is like. Like here’s a bear that’s social but not known to be as social or intelligent as us, but can smell food from miles away. How does that FEEL?

I see a lot of people talk about it like its involuntary, and I can't really understand how that happens. My inner speech is always directly thought I have on purpose, the only thoughts I don't have on purpose are emotions and those don't really trigger inner speech from me unless, again, I do so on purpose. If I don't try to, my brain just goes silent.

SciShow I love you but I have to point this out precisely because it's a show based on science. I think the plant you are referring to is Epipremnum aureum. Pothos is a completely separate genus from a different part of the world. This video is therefore very misleading.

*Sightly off-topic, but...* For me, this sort of thing tops my list for the argument of some kind supreme deity. The construction of niological species is unnecessarily complex and flawed. Why would you give other species the ability to fly, see in the dark, breathe underwater, regrow body parts, etc, etc, but not your 'flagship' species?

I mean the math over a span of millions of year adds up to it clearly evolving in them so how doesn’t it show... that’s its entirely correct? Less mosquito bites = higher chance of survival. We all know that part... unless of course the catnip is only a part of the puzzle...

Added note: West Michigan used to be a hotbed of apple production, until the fungal blight that overwhelmed virtually all orchards in the early 2000s. Every tree was cut and burnt, and many orchards switched to other crops, such that the fruit truck crop of Michigan has been changed.

The very first potted plant in the video is a Philodendron Brasil , not a Pothos. Vining philos are often mistaken for pothos (a lot of similar colors and similar shapes) so the mistake is common.

The new queen enters the throne room, closely watching her environment. The big crowd is silent, staring back at the interesting scene. The old queen is laughing meanicingly, then suddenly pulls out her stinger to attack the new queen. As she is older, she knows that her only chance of winning lies within the element of suprise, but the princess parries flawlessly, as they begin their duel. With marvellous speeds, they circle around each other, but the elder queen cant keep up. It was inevitable from the beginning: as the old queen dies with the stinger in her heart, she whisperes her final words ,,And so the cycle continues. Take care of my legacy, so that when you will be in my position, you can hand it on to the next in line" then as her last words fade away, she slowly decends onto the ground, until she doesnt move anymore. The new queen picks up the little crown and as she turns around, the crowd starts applauding: long live the hive

When you say the potato starch bags are worse because of the cost of growing the potato's, but aren't those being grown ANYWAY and used for other products or are they literally using the entire crop just to make bags? Because if they are using by-products then you need to off-set some of that cost for a truely representative value.

We need to farm the planet to keep it heathy ,we can halvest any animals and natural resources as long as it's in a balance. No farmed animal has ever gone extinct ,like the kiwi bird if we could farm it so it was no longer endangerd and there was a large population we could sustainably halvest from I would be all for that ,even when it came to whales and other what are now endangered species ,as long as they were farmed sustainably and had stable populations that needed controlling to sustain the natural balance of things or as close as we can get it ,arfter all we are a earth bound species as well
